White Trash Wednesday #13

I have to thank my dear friend Jake (http://www.jakekerr.com/) for passing this link along to me. You'll be thanking him soon as well. Please be sure you have your speakers on so that you can get the full effect of this wedding slideshow. I'm warning you: you may want to watch it more than once. It's kind of like Star Wars, in the sense that each time you see it you will notice something new. For instance, the first time I saw it, I didn't see that one of the flower girls had her finger shoved up her nose while the bride was holding her. However, I did catch that endearing moment on the second go around.
And just because I really love my readers, and football season has arrived (which affords me more opportunities to snap WTW pics), I am also including these photos that my friend Britney allowed me to snap with her camera at a birthday party this past weekend. I spotted this lovely lady standing in the concession line at a public pool in Carrolton.

Summer Heat

Well, it's definitely Summer in Texas. The 100 plus degree weather keeps on coming. I've lived here all my life, and somehow I'm still not used to it. I've been super busy the last few weeks with my online class, Art Appreciation, and the kickoff of football and drill season. So, I've kind of neglected the blog. I'm going to do my best tonight to get you all back to speed on what's been going on with the Pittman's.

So, first let's go back to Monday, July 14th. I like to refer to this day as Attack of the Little A-Hole. I got up early Monday morning to move my car so Wes could head to work. That's when I found this.

I promptly marched into our house shouting expletives as I alerted Wes that there was a huge brick in my front seat. He was not happy. As we surveyed the damage to the Montero, I looked over and saw a brick lying on the ground next to Wes' truck that matched the one in my front seat. This is when I can only assume that the smoke began to billow out of my ears and nose.

There were marks on two of his windows where it appeared that the little a-hole attempted to throw it through his windows but was unsuccessful. I guess that's when they decided to just pound the shit out of the side of his truck, leaving dents instead. I'm almost certain of who did the damage, as other neighbors have experienced similar damage to their vehicles over the past year. I think it's definitely time we invest in a video surveillance system. As mad as I was when I initially saw it, I couldn't stay mad for long. We are happy and healthy and have had a very blessed year.

On Wednesday, I babysat Derrick and Dakota while their Mommy went to a funeral for Charis' mother. Dakota had a great time watching Baby Einstein movies and giving me big smiles while Derrick and Grace practiced doing y-scales. And yes, I realize Derrick can do a better y-scale than Grace. LOL! She'll get there eventually.

Hunter spent the week at Camp Rorie-Galloway. He had a great time. They went on a field trip to the Dallas World Aquarium http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dallas_World_Aquarium and a trip to see Journey to the Center of the Earth in 3-D. Hunter said it was the MOST awesome movie that he has ever seen and that he wants to buy it. LOL! He also had a chance to scale the 30 foot climbing wall at camp and do his favorite element, the zip line.

Then Friday, we handed out equipment to Hunter's football team, then had the "E" team coaches over for dinner. Wes will be an assistant coach again this year. Roger, who was an assistant last year, will be the head coach since Coach Don has moved up to the "D" team. Coach Willie will also be assisting again this year, and another super nice guy named Wesley will be an assistant coach. I made a big pan of lasagna for dinner and apple dumplings for dessert. Check out the Pioneer Woman's blog in my links list for the super simple dessert recipe.

Saturday, we headed over to the Moore's house to celebrate Kaylee's 11th birthday with presents and cake. Sadie was adorable as she sat on the floor sharing her cake with the dog, Delilah.

That evening, the Moore's came over to hang out. As you can see, it was a pretty boring Saturday night here in Mesquite, Texas.

So, Monday (the 21st) was the first day of practice. This is Grace's first year on drill team and she couldn't wait to put on her clothes and head to practice. Hunter was pretty eager too. They both did great. Hunter has grown sooo much since last year. He used to be one of the littlest guys on his team, and now he's taller than a lot of the boys or at least the same height. Of course I had to get a picture of Grace and Derrick together since it was the first day for both of them on flag. Then I had to get a pic of Grace and Haley. They've been in the same Mother's Day Out class since they were 2, and I'm so glad that her mom has brought her over to be a part of the Eagles organization. The Moore's niece, Audrey, who Grace adores is also on her team this year and stepped in for a pic as well. I had to get a pic of Wes with my boys (Amari, Hunter and Demaris) leading stretches.. Oh I've missed football. Look at that big grin on Amari's face. What a sweet heart!!

On Wednesday afternoon, Wes got word that Verizon was sending him and 3 other guys to South Texas to help out where hurricane Dolly had hit. They told him they would need him down there for a week-minimum. http://www.cnn.com/2008/US/weather/07/23/hurricane.dolly/index.html

So at 3:30 a.m.--YES people A.M. on Thursday--Wes and I loaded up the kids and dropped him off at work, so he could drive his bucket truck down to Welasco, Texas. His two buddies David and Kevin were also sent down there. The kids played around in his bucket truck for a little bit before it was time to give him a hug and say goodbye.

So, we're not used to Daddy being gone, and we already miss him A LOT! Oh and once he got down there, they told him they would now be needing him for a minimum of 2 weeks. YIKES!! But I'm soo proud of him for going and so thankful to be married to such a devoted husband and father. He works so incredibly hard for this family, and this is just one more reminder of how truly blessed I am.

Thursday evening, I had to go to the Nasher Sculpture Center in downtown Dallas as part of my Art Appreciation class. I was dreading the trip (mostly b/c I was tired, had to be miss my kids practice, and nervous about being in downtown by myself), but it was actually pretty cool. They have pieces by Picasso, Segal, Matisse and a host of other artists I have never heard of. Thursday nights are free at the Nasher and they have a lovely patio cafe and there was a dj playing music on the lawn as well. I definitely recommend checking this museum out.

Friday, we headed to Pump It Up to celebrate Sara's 5th birthday. Vyvy had the eating area decorated soo cute with an Alice in Wonderland theme. The kids had a blast jumping, and Grace found a new friend in Vyvy's college aged sister, Tuvy. She even let Grace take pictures with her camera. We got to hang out with some of our friends that we hadn't seen in several months. It was a lot of fun.
